The Hub City

Colton, California once known as “The Hub City", was the crossing point for three transcontinental railroads. Even today you can hear a train whistle as it barrels through the city of Colton on tracks laid many years ago. In the early days, beside transcontinental railroads, there were several steam roads connecting the “Hub” to other Southern California cities including San Diego. As a shipping and distribution point, Colton ranked third in the state. The fact that Colton was the only city in the valley on the main line of the Southern Pacific railroad partially explains why it was such an important point. Colton was at the time a direct track to every point in Southern California. Colton was truly, “The Hub City”. You can relive the exciting history of Colton in railroad and local area museums.

Today the city of Colton provides a lovely place to live, to visit, and to shop. You can enjoy the natural beauty of Colton and the Reche Canyon area on countless trails either on horseback, hiking or biking.
